Damien Nguyen
The Beautiful Countryarticle | transcript | more Damien Nguyen photos

There are two big ad spaces in Los Angeles. Now, when I say 'big', I mean big. These ad spaces fill the entire sides of two different fifteen-story buildings. One building is on the Strip (west Sunset Boulevard), the other at the intersection of Beverly and Robertson in Beverly Hills. When I shot Damien Nguyen, Sony was heavily promoting the theatrical release of Bewitched and an ad promoting that film covered the entire west side of the latter building, 8899 Beverly Boulevard. I didn't know exactly how to use the ad, but knew I was going to have to try something. I ran through at least two roles of film with Nguyen in front of the Bewitched ad and, as sometimes happens, almost none of it worked. This is the one photo that I was pleasantly surprised by. This is the other photo that sort of worked. Here is one that didn't. Ugh. 2 for 48 isn't good by anyone's standards. Nguyen and I were standing on the second story of a parking garage in order to get this perspective. Damien Nguyen, star of The Beautiful Country, poses for Terrance Gold
