This photo shoot with actor Josh Lucas was undoubtably the biggest photo shoot I've done. While I was shooting Lucas, there were five and sometimes six other people in the room with me. My brother was assisting me with the set up and the lights, there were three publicists present in addition to a two-person camera crew from Access Hollywood who wanted to shoot me shooting Lucas. All of us were crammed into a 18' x 15' room with two fairly sizable lights, a table and a large couch. • You'll notice that Lucas had a cast on his left hand. He earned the cast by falling off of a reportedly 30 foot wall on the set of his upcoming film, The Poseidon Adventure, and tearing some tendons in his hand in the process. Lucas is left-handed and it provided for some amusement when I'd ask him to move his hands or to point at the camera. Lucas would invariably position his dominant (and casted) hand in the shot and I'd say, "Non-freak hand, please," take a new photo and we'd move on. • Normally, I hate to hear people in the entertainment industry talk about how great it was to work with a certain director or co-star. It offers little insight into... well, into anything because very rarely does any qualifying statement come into play later. I will not fall into the same trap here. Lucas was a joy to work with because he was genuinely into the shoot. Not only was he amenable to our very ghetto shooting conditions--just remember, it's what's on the film that counts, not what's going on behind the camera while obtaining it--but he was warm, loquatious and in extremely good spirits. Having worked with actor Nick Nolte on Hulk Lucas had some truly funny stories about his experiences (and one where he, Nolte and Sam Elliott were running late because their car was stuck in LA traffic and the studio sent a helicopter over to pick them up by the side of the road) and was a really good sport. At one point, I joked about Lucas' rising celebrity with him which provoked his ever-so-amusing repsonse, "I can't believe I'm getting heckled at my own photo shoot." This photo was taken mere seconds after his statement. • This has nothing to do with anything, but this photo makes me want an iPod.
