JEN MASHUGA: Yeah, I read that he actually just got a place here.
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Something like that, he’s making a couple there.
JEN MASHUGA: Yeah, I think he bought a place here so he could immerse himself in the character.
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Yeah, that’s really great.
JEN MASHUGA: Besides Wedding Crashers, is there anything you’re working on right now, or are there any parts you’Ve auditioned for lately that you really want?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: I audition every day.
JEN MASHUGA: So you have an audition today?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Later today. I audition two or three times a day.
JEN MASHUGA: On another subject, you also had a role in Charlie’s Angels?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Oh, yeah, I was so disappointed about that. I was really proud of that, I thought I’d done a good job, and they completely cut me out of the movie. I didn’t even find out until the premiere.
JEN MASHUGA: Ouch, they didn’t tell you?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Well, that’s pretty normal; they don’t call people who are only in a couple scenes that they were cut. But yeah, it was pretty disappointing.
JEN MASHUGA: Was Charlie’s Angels where you met Crispin Glover?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Yeah, I met him on the set. There’s actually this small, independent movie I did with him called...
JEN MASHUGA: Everything is Fine. Yeah, I read about it. So he asked you to be in the movie?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Yeah, in it I get strangled to death.
JEN MASHUGA: Wow. So it is ever going to be released?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: I don’t know. That was years ago, and I think Crispin financed it with his own money. I don’t know if it’ll ever be released.
JEN MASHUGA: Do you still talk to Crispin?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Yeah, I still talk to him once in a while.
JEN MASHUGA: There was another movie you did, National Lampoon’s Van Wilder. So tell me about it. Was it as fun to shoot as it looks?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Oh yeah. We had so much fun on the set. But my scene, you know Kal was actually set on fire? And during the filming, I just kept laughing. So I think the director definitely got irritated with me.
JEN MASHUGA: Did your parents see the movie?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: My family is European, and there are topless and nude beaches all over Europe, so it wasn’t that big a deal. But I still didn’t want my dad to see it, even though it’s not a big deal --
JEN MASHUGA: Because he’s your dad.
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Right. But my mom did see it, just not my dad.
JEN MASHUGA: I know you traveled a lot for Hotlines. Now, do you mainly just travel for work, or do you take vacations on your own, with friends and such?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Yeah, with friends, but mainly with work, which I prefer. They pay for everything, we get to go everywhere, see everything. I’d rather go for work, so then I know I’m getting paid, and I’m not missing a possible audition or job. I love to travel. My favorite place I went to was Panama, with Hotlines.
JEN MASHUGA: Why?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: It just wasn’t what I expect at all. It’s very lush, beautiful.
JEN MASHUGA: Why did Hotlines end?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Just between you and me? (Laughs). I probably shouldn’t even be telling you this. I think because they were amateurs. They didn’t have a lot of experience, they couldn’t afford it anymore. They were paying for everything themselves.
JEN MASHUGA: Would you like to host a travel show?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Yes, that would be my dream! That was what I did with Hotlines.
JEN MASHUGA: What would your show be like, would it be like Hotlines, an adventure travel show?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Yeah, about discovering new places, adventure.
JEN MASHUGA: In February, you were Playboy’s Babe of the Month. Are you happy with the focus on your looks, or do you wish that you could turn it, make people focus more on who you are, what you care about?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: I’m happy just to get my foot in the door, and I work with what I have — not to say that’s what I have — but I’m grateful just to be working. So, I get the roles that have more to do with my looks, and I work with that.
JEN MASHUGA: Which do you prefer, modeling or acting?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Modeling. Acting is fun, something I’ve been getting into, but modeling is my job.
JEN MASHUGA: So, have you found that being a model helps you get into character in film in any way?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: No, not with getting into character. It helps with getting comfortable in front of the camera, but it doesn’t help with the character at all. Maybe with self-confidence, depending on what part I play.
JEN MASHUGA: Ok. Do you ever feel that being a beautiful woman is kind of like an anchor around your neck, in terms of getting roles?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: No, I’ll take what I can get, (Laughs) if I can get my foot in the door, absolutely! But thank you for the compliment, by the way.
JEN MASHUGA: You also talked about modeling being your job. Would you like to transition completely to acting and stop modeling?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: I think modeling is great, I love it, but it’s not a job you can do forever. I’m going to get older, my looks will fade: just like everyone’s. So yes, I would definitely like to switch over to acting completely. Eventually I’d like to have my own show.
JEN MASHUGA: Was acting a burning passion when you were growing up?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: When I was younger, it wasn’t something I wanted to do. It’s definitely something I enjoy doing. But it’s not something I set out to do my whole life. But I stumbled upon it, and I love it.
JEN MASHUGA: What do you love about it?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: I think it’s almost therapy in a sense; you get to be all these different characters all the time. I get to be something new all the time.
JEN MASHUGA: A number of top models have attempted to bridge the gap to acting, very few have succeeded. What do you see as the main stumbling block to this?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: It might be, I mean, the fact that, usually those girls are used to getting whatever they want whenever they want it. Maybe it’s their work ethic, maybe they don’t — I mean, acting is a serious matter; it takes a lot of preparation, a lot of studying and stuff like that. Maybe they’re not taking it as seriously as they could be, you know? It’s definitely a full time job.
JEN MASHUGA: How much training have you had?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: I’ve gone through a ton of different schools, and every script that I get, depending on how soon, I only have so much time to work with it. Several hours working on everything that I get. I mean, for the most part you don’t get that much time to prepare, so you need to use your time wisely, because everything moves so fast in this business.
JEN MASHUGA: Yeah? So what was the longest amount of time you’ve had to prepare for a role?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: I got a week.
JEN MASHUGA: A week is the longest?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Yeah.
JEN MASHUGA: Wow. What’s the shortest?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: A couple hours.
JEN MASHUGA: A couple hours?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Yeah. [Pretending to be her manager] "Yeah, girl, you have to go in this afternoon!" What?!
JEN MASHUGA: What part was that for, where it was only a couple hours?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: It happens all the time.
JEN MASHUGA: Really?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Yeah.
JEN MASHUGA: Are you happy with your performances and roles in the movies you’ve done so far?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Yeah, so far. Each role has been great, another step up.
JEN MASHUGA: What kind of film role would you like to play?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: I still haven’t played a lead role!
JEN MASHUGA: Are there any movies you’ve seen that you thought, "I would love to play that role?"
IVANA BOZILOVIC: All the time. I would love to do roles like Angelina Jolie does: strong, sexy roles. I just love her, I think she’s so great, and all the roles she plays.
JEN MASHUGA: What would be your favorite character to get into?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: I don’t want to play a bimbo the rest of my life, so something with a little bit of heart.
JEN MASHUGA: Which do you prefer? From what I’ve seen you’ve mainly done comedy, do you prefer doing comedies or would you rather get offered a part in a drama?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: It depends on the character, but yeah.
JEN MASHUGA: So, if you were offered a small indie film with great characters, would you take it?
IVANA BOZILOVIC: Oh, of course.
