As human beings, we yearn. Some people yearn for world peace, some people yearn for Cindy Crawford or Brad Pitt. I yearn for the day when I'll be able to write the sentence, "James Toback has finally directed a good movie". Though fat, old and bald, Toback likes to think of himself as young, vibrant and in possession of the 4-1-1. And thusly, we are graced with Black and White, a superficial and benign examination of the intermingling of black and white culture. With sub-plots galore and no real direction to the storyline, Black and White seemed as if it would have been a much improved picture if, interestingly enough, the whole point of this film--the examination of blacks and whites together--had been removed.
