Starring Tom Hanks, et al. Released to DVD on June 13, 2000.

With a running time of 188 minutes (that's 3 hours and 8 minutes) it's not only likely but probable that you could read Stepehen King's novel in less time than it would take to you to watch this film. However, doing so would deprive you of writer/director Frank Darabont's Oscar nominated filmmaking talents. Tom Hanks stars in The Green Mile as Paul Edgecomb, a death-row prison guard, who oversees the holding and execution of the prisoners on his cellblock--nicknamed the green mile because of the lime colored flooring. Edgecomb's life is changed for good when a mild-mannered seven foot prisoner, John Coffey (Academy Award nominated Michael Clarke Duncan) is brought onto the green mile, convicted, but not necessarily guilty of killing and raping two girls. King's story is strong, if somewhat grandious at times--I can think of another wrongfully imprisoned man with the ability to help those around him whose initials were J.C.--and Darabont's rapport with his actors excellent as is evident by the cast's spectacularly well-acted performances. It may take an entire weekend to get through this film, but the result is well worth the effort.
