The movie that, apparently, wants to allow viewers to learn where the expression "going ape" came from. After spending several years studying mountain gorillas in Africa, Dr. Ethan Powell (Anthony Hopkins) decides to join a group of simians, in essence, becoming a gorilla himself. After brutally murdering several African game park rangers, it's up to the young and idealistic psychology student, Dr. Theo Caulder (Cuba Gooding Jr.) to interview Powell and find out why he behaved as he did. Gooding is the poster child of over-acting-a trait that isn't helped much by his presence next to the lickably delicious Hopkins-and Gerald Di Pego's script both formulaic and stale, two traits that I thought he worked out in his last script, Message in a Bottle.
