Fulfilling the last commitment on his three picture deal with Disney, Bruce Willis stars here in The Kid as Russ Duritz, a man rapidly approaching his 40th birthday. The dream role for Willis--a role that adds hair and subtracts years from his age--the plot of this maudelin film focuses on the unexplained event that allows Russ to meet up with a seven year old version of himself (then nick-named Rusty). Suddenly Russ begins to realize that as a grown up, he is a far cry from the person he wanted to become whilst still a kid. In typical Disney fashion, both Russ and his seven year old self begin to take pointers from one another that make them both better people. Reeking of sappy familial wholesomeness and formulaic screenwriting, The Kid is an amalgamation of the worst and most cliched Disney movies in existence.
