Starring Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant, et al. Released to DVD on November 9, 1999.
Hugh Grant stars as William Thacker, the owner of a London travel bookstore that appears to take in upwards of £50 a month. Julia Roberts plays Anna Scott, a vacationing mega-star actress, not unlike one Julia Roberts. Scott bumps into Thacker in his bookstore, and later, and more literally, on the street where he spills coffee on her. And, based on the romantic clumsiness of a British man who stutters a lot and runs his hands through his hair more often than a 16 year old girl flirting with the captain of the football team, the romance between Anna and William is born. Written by Richard Curtis (Four Wedding and a Funeral), Notting Hill is entertaining both because of the sweet natured relationship between Anna and William and because of the enormously fascinating idea of an everyday person getting to date the highest paid actress on the planet. Notting Hill is one of the agreeable romantic movies of the year.
