Starring Robin Williams, et al. Released to DVD on June 22, 1999.
Actor Robin Williams is many things, an Academy Award winner and a genuinely funny comic and performer, but one thing that has become obvious in Williams' performances of late is that he is not the most discerning actor when it comes time to choose scripts in which to act. Written by Maureen Mylander and directed by Tom Shadyac (Ace Ventura), Williams stars as Dr. Hunter "Patch" Adams, the Disney-ized version of the true story of Patch Adams, a doctor who fought the system to bring laughter and free clinics to the masses. For the purposes of this film, Mylander and Shadyac conveniently forgot that the real life Adams has yet to do anything that he originally planned. This was merely another "beat ëem over the head with the message" movie courtesy of Shadyac, and not even a funny one at that.
