I've been a fan of Luis Guzman's work since 1991 when I saw him in director John Badham's The Hard Way. James Woods on-screen conscience, Guzman would begin every sentence with the slow, "I don't know, Moss...;" When I had the opportunity to speak with Guzman about his work in Steven Soderbergh's Traffic, I leapt at the opportunity. I'd never done any type of interview before and figured what better way was there to start than with an actor like Guzman, whose work I'd respected for years.
And so I did.
The interview itself was one of the most--uh, how-should-I-put-this--interesting that I've ever conducted, as you should be able to see when you read it. I would ask certain questions and others would end up getting answered. And it was permanently interrupted by a furniture delivery on his end.
This interview aside, Guzman remains, in both scientific and critical terms, one of the coolest actors on-screen.
