Blood Guts Bullets and Octane is many things, clever, tricky, violent and well-written, but there is one thing it is not: the British cult film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Dan Leis and writer, producer, director, Joe Carnahan star as two used car salesmen whose business has all but folded. Looking for a way to save their dealership, an acquaintance brings them an intriguing proposition: allow a car to be parked on their lot for two days and be paid $250,000. They agree and before the end of the first day, people are shot, ransoms are demanded and the F.B.I. has gotten involved. With the extended usage of hand held cameras, the feel of this film is decidedly small (about as small as its under $10,000 budget). However, with the nature of the plot and the small time criminal nature of the two leads, this works well in the context of the film. As low budget crime capers go, Blood Guts Bullets and Octane was marvelously entertaining.
