And the stagnation of Hong Kong stars in American action films continues... In The Corrupter, Chow Yun-Fat plays Nick Chen, a New York City cop working the Chinatown district. Chinatown is, naturally, brimming with crime and street gangs nicknamed the Dragons. As a favor to Chen, the department gives him a new partner, rookie cop, Danny Wallace (Mark Wahlberg). After teasing Wallace for being white for the first half of the film, Chen and Wallace put aside their differences and start working together to clean up Chinatown. Outside of a particularly well shot and choreographed car chase, The Corrupter does a fairly fluid job of being your run-of-the-mill action movie.
