This film has been marketed as poet and author extraordinaire Maya Angelouís triumphant directorial debut. However, after even a second of contemplation, this marketing angle takes on a new light, as one comes to realize that Angelou does, in fact, have a readily identifiable talent, itís just that that talent doesnít have anything to do with directing feature films. While the story of Down in the Delta is goodóAlfre Woodard stars as a drug addled Chicago woman who cleans herself up by going to live with family members in LouisianaóAngelouís rather simplistic style of direction occasionally takes away from the powerful message at hand. Nevertheless, this was still a somewhat enjoyable film.
