There are certain things in life that move slowly--rush hour traffic, for example--but never in my wildest dreams would I have guessed that there was a film out there besides A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon that could progress as incredibly slowly as director Neil Jordan's The End of the Affair. Starring two actors in Ralph Fiennes and Julianne Moore who have firmly eschewed Hollywood's rapid materialism and big pay days, The End of the Affair is the muddle of tedium surrounding the affair between Maurice (Fiennes) and Sarah (Moore) that took place in Britain during World War II. This is that movie you want to tell your friends you saw (and identified with) so that you appear more knowledgeable and sophisticated than they are.
