Starring Jennifer Jason Leigh. Released to DVD on October 19, 1999.

Audra Gellar (Jennifer Jason Leigh) is a top-notch computer programmer who has created a ground-breaking new virtual reality (VR) game system, eXistenZ, that is about to be put on the market. At an informal meeting with a test audience, Gellar is shot at with a gun made from human body parts and forced to go on the run with public relations director, Ted Pikul (Jude Law). Writer/director David Croenenberg seems very intrigued with exploring the possibilities of what could and might happen should people ever get trapped inside a VR system. Post modern and existential to a fault, eXistenZ was momentarily interesting, but long overstays its welcome with its virtual reality vs. reality theme confusing and, ultimately, cheap. This is one of Croenenberg's more confusing scripts. From the man who gave us Naked Lunch, that is saying a lot.
