Johnathon Schaech stars in Finding Graceland as Byron, a distraught man, driving aimlessly around the American southwest trying to forget about the car crash he was involved in that took the life of his wife. Bryon's fate takes a turn in the right direction when he stops to pick up a hitchhiker headed for Memphis (Harvey Keitel) who believes that he is Elvis. Together, Byron and Elvis drive towards Graceland, confronting their pasts and numerous (metaphoric) ghosts along the way. Screenwriter Jason Horwitch's tale of lost loves and over-coming personal tragedies is a fluidly paced work that allows Schaech's and Keitel's characters to learn about and, eventually, from one another, forming a bond that isn't often seen on screen today. Schaech is excellent as the bitter and short-tempered Bryon, and Keitel--outside of attempting one of the worst southern accents captured on film--delightful as Bryon's emotional opposite: a calm, well-intentioned man focused on helping others. Not since Field of Dreams has there been a movie this cleverly written about characters searching for redemption and the long, winding roads they must travel to ultimately reach that goal. This was a gem.
