20 years after their sci-fi television cult classic Galaxy Quest (think Star Trek) has been taken off the air, actors Jason Nesmith (Tim Allen), Gwen DeMarco (Sigorney Weaver, Alexander Dane (Alan Rickman) and Fred Kwan (Tony Shalhoub) are called upon to recreate their roles in real life when an alien race contacts them in dire need of help. Having received 'historical documents' that the rest of the world would refer to as re-runs, the aliens have built their entire lives and spaceships, around the specifications they saw on the episodes of Galaxy Quest. Thus, when Nesmith and his acting comrades arrive on-board the alien craft, it's up to them to quickly learn how to do the things that their television characters already knew how to do. Allen is good in the lead, something you sure as hell wouldn't have guessed he could do based on his past leading performances in Jungle 2 Jungle and The Santa Clause. However, it is Allen's supporting cast members that steal the movie from him. Shalhoub and Rickman are particularly good in their roles as ship engineer and the Dr. Spock-esque advisor. Off-beat and funny, Galaxy Quest was quite an amusing film.
