Starring Sharon Stone, et al. Released to DVD on May 25, 1999.
With a Sharon Stone lead and press copy that reads, "...Stone stars as a mobster's tough ex-mistress who befriends a boy left orphaned by a murderous gunman... in this gritty yet touching drama", it's no wonder this film didn't gross $300 million at the box office. I mean hell, I almost fell asleep writing that paragraph. But the actual truth of the matter is that the quality of this production genuinely surprised me. Outside of her work on Casino, Stone has never been viewed as an actor's actress and the situation in Gloria is no different. Stone's attempts at a tough girl/Italian accent were as rough as MacGyver's stubble and as painful to listen to as the latest Rob Zombie tune, but this was ultimately muted (not literally) as the plot material and suspense took over the flow of this movie. Complete with a well edited car chase, Gloria was something of a surprise to me.
