Steve Zahn has made a career out of playing shaggy-haired, dim-witted, criminal losers. Staying true to form here in Happy, Texas, Zahn plays Wayne Wayne Wayne Jr. a shaggy-haired, dim-witted criminal loser who manages to escape from jail while being chained to Harry Sawyer (Jeremy Northam). On the run, Wayne and Harry steal a camper from two men at a gas station and head out on the road. The catch? The two men who own the camper were A) Flamingly gay and B) headed to a town in Texas called Happy, where they would act as coordinators of the town's beauty pageant. Apparently reasoning that passing as gay beauty pageant coordinators will keep them out of the public eye, Wayne and Harry continue to Happy and start the beauty competition. I'm not really sure where to start with my criticism on this film, there being so many different points worthy of discussion. Quite noticeable was the presence of the normally cultured and refined Northam, whose appearance here should only have been as a personal favor to director Mark Illsley.
