Starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, et al. Released to DVD on September 21, 1999.

Much like the future in T2: Judgement Day, the future in The Matrix is a dark, grim and rather horrific sounding place. Computers, operating on a system known as the matrix, have started to grow and harvest humans as an energy source so they can continue to function. In order to keep the humans in a blissful state of ignorance, the computers have created a virtual life for the humans that feels real, but, sadly, is anything but. However, when cyber-hacker extraordinaire Morpheus (Lawrence Fishbourne) hooks up with Thomas "Neo" Anderson, the chosen one (Keanu Reeves), all that is subject to change. The script in The Matrix is complex and tight, but all positive raves in a condensed review must be focused solely on the Wachowski brothers superb use of special effects and computer generated imagery (CGI). The Wachowskis made wonderful usage of the technology available and, in some cases, went ahead and created new CGI techniques to capture the world they envisioned. The bigger the TV screen you have, the better.
