Starring Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfeiffer, Calista Flockhart. Released to DVD on November 9, 1999.
This was a rather bland retelling of one of the bard's most famous plays. After the sprightly Puck (Stanley Tucci) causes some pixie magic by having men in committed relationships fall for other women, it's up to Oberon (Rupert Everett) to set things straight. There are also plenty of sub-plots featuring really skinny actresses including Calista Flockhart and Michelle Pfeiffer. The acting here in A Midsummer Night's Dream is passable at best, with Flockhart leaving her best on the Fox Network and Christian Bale and Tucci being woefully underused and almost completely wasted. This is the kind of movie where you leave during the middle of it to make yourself a sandwich and upon returning, find yourself angry that it didn't take you longer to make the sandwich.
