And as a counter balance to the American Pie's, South Park's and There's Something About Mary's of the celluloid world comes Francois Gruffante and Don McKellar's culturally and artistically rich film, The Red Violin. Much like their prior collaboration together on 32 Short Films About Glen Gould, Gruffante and McKellar buck the standard 3 act script, instead, following five different stories in the life travels of the red violin, the most acoustically perfect violin ever made. Consciously devoid of any big name stars, save for very bit roles by Samuel L. Jackson and Greta Scacchi, The Red Violin caters to those viewers interested in history, mythology and-I cannot stress this enough-classical music. Devotees of Korn and Filter may consider passing on this beautiful voyage throughout time.
