Starring Sophie Marceau, et al. Released to DVD on September 7, 1999.
After the expensive and rather blase movie The Man in the Iron Mask, I thought it would be some time before Hollywood studios released another Three Musketeers film. However, when the boys at Miramax discovered this French film starring the beautiful and agile Sophie Marceau, suddenly releasing another film about the musketeers didn't seem like that bad of an idea. Braveheart's Marceau leads here as Eloise d'Artagnan, the twenty-something daughter of Captain d'Artagnan, former leader of the French musketeers. When Eloise learns of a government conspiracy involving slaves, she contacts her well-connected father about it. The Captain gathers up his old musketeer buddies and together with Eloise they take off after the bad guys. Marceau is delightful in the lead, demonstrating a playful coquettishness and a mastery of the blade. This was a turn in the right direction for her after her dismal performance in Lost and Found.
