Romeo Must Die may have been the biggest disappointment of the year. It's not that I was expecting much from Jet Li's latest actioneer, it's just that I was expecting something. Within the first 20 minutes of this Joel Silver (The Matrix) produced bomb, I watched in horror as I saw the stuntmen pull their punches and kicks and noticeably miss their marks by a good foot; the magic of the camera was sorely lacking. With poor production elements like these, it made it next to impossible to care about the retelling of the Romeo + Juliet story that was at the core of this film. The failing point of most action films is that they are too glitzy and glamorous. Sadly, Romeo Must Die didn't even have these qualities to fall back upon.
