Judging from the box office results of this film, Julia Roberts is such a big star that the quality of the actual movie that she stars in is now incidental behind being able to say "I saw the new Julia Roberts movie" to oneís friends and co-workers. Well, I saw the new Julia Roberts movie, and it pained me to do so, promising so very much, delivering so very little. Marketed heavily as the reuniting of the Pretty Woman gang, actors Roberts, Richard Gere and Hector Elizondo with director Garry Marshall, Runaway Bride follows the story of commitment shy Maggie Carpenter (Roberts). Year after year, suitor after suitor, Carpenter gets engaged to men and then backs out, literally running away from the weddings in question. Low on column ideas, USA Today writer Ike Graham (Gere) writes about Carpenter, gets fired because of it, goes down to Carpenterís town in Maryland to apologize to her and sets himself up to be prospective husband #4 for Carpenter. Not romantic or comedic, Roberts did much better for herself in Notting Hill.
