During the last five years, there has been a proliferation of cheaply made, crassly written and unfunny parodies produced in Hollywood (Wrongfully Accused, Mafia! Plump Fiction, Spy Hard). The acting in these movies is always poor and the majority of the humor is supposed to come from slightly twisted recreations of scenes from other popular movies; people running into the forest ala The Blair Witch Project or the gravity defying fight sequences in The Matrix. However, despite the fact that director Keenan Ivory Wayans' film Scary Movie is all of the above, it remains at times comically inspired. Plotwise, Scary Moive is nothing more than a rehashing of Scream(which was originally titled Scary Movie), complete with a masked killer in black robe, a frightfully Wiggum-like chief of police and a lead character, Cindy (Anna Faris) who is taking the intimate matters in her relationship with Bobby (Jon Abrahams) very slowly. Crude and sexually explicit at times, Scary Movie had some truly funny moments, but as a whole could easily be lumped together with the aforementioned spoofs.
