The key to making original works of cinema is to broach new topics and genres. No one would have ever thought that sparrows or robins could be menacing, then came Alfred Hitchcock's classic film, The Birds. However, not all experiments of this nature work, as director Rob Cohen's film The Skulls shows. Trying to vilify the Ivy League Secret Societies--namely the Skulls--we watch Luke McNamara (Joshua Jackson), a working class student who has fought and clawed his way through three and a half years of Harvard. During his senior year, Luke is initiated into the Skulls and soon realizes that being a Skull has a lot of disadvantages that he hadn't originally thought of. If you're interested in watching a group of young republicans who (with the exception of Luke) were born with a silver spoon in their mouths taking themselves far too seriously, The Skulls is the perfect movie for you. Otherwise this will feel ill conceived and poorly written.
