There just arenít enough Viking action flicksÖ especially those starring sexy, Latin men like Antonio Banderas. Filling that conscious void is director John McTiernanís The Thirteenth Warrior, adapted from Michael Crichtonís novel, Eaters of the Dead. After being banished from his Middle Eastern homeland for sleeping with the wrong woman, Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan (Banderas) joins a group of twelve Vikings looking for a mystical thirteenth warrior who is destined to lead them to victory over a group of mysterious beings who randomly attack the Vikingís village after dark. The selling points of this film are kick-ass action sequences and suspenseful, tension filled drama. Banderas performs admirably in the lead, deftly wielding the blade. The man has a knack for being in good action films.
