Probably the most progressive of all alternative films to have been released in 1999. The press release says it all: "Mary Carmen (Salma Hayek) is Valentino's girlfriend... Valentino (Vincent D'Onofrio) is Gary's hero... Gary (Thomas Jane) is Valentino's true love... Valentino is Mary Carmen's world. And the three of them make for one unique love story." When Valentino, an ex-porn star himself, develops AIDS, a wrench is thrown into things. Different for the sake of being different. It's just that simple.
