Teen movies are, fort he most part, fun and somewhat vacuous. Certain movies are more fun--Drive Me Crazy--or vacuous--The Faculty--than others. So, while possessing the standard formula for teen movies--in the end people believe more in themselves and boys learn that personality is more important in a girlfriend than a nice rack--everything about Whatever It Takes is just slightly off. Characters say "Wireless phone" instead of "Cordless phone" , they play the accordion instead of the guitar and so on. I just couldn't believe that I was watching American teens in action as the overall feel of this production was strangely Australian. There are some clever one-liners and retorts included in Whatever it Takes, but this couldn't disguise the low-budget feel of this movie.
