Starring Taye Diggs, Omar Epps, et al. Released to DVD on January 18, 2000.
The day of his wedding, Roland (Taye Diggs) gets a severe case of cold feet and scampers to the house of his high school sweetheart (Nia Long) for comfort. Itís up to his two friends Mike (Omar Epps) and Slim (Richard T. Jones) to set things straight. Things are thusly straightened through a series of flashbacks through the many years of Roland, Mike, and Slimís friendship in Englewood, California. What this has to do with one man getting married, or his two friends trying to convince him to go through with the wedding is a point neither the screenwriter nor the director want the audience to put any amount of thought into. Directed like a Facts of Life flashback episodeó"Remember the time weÖ"óThe Wood had moments of genuine interest and warmth, but these moments were quickly killed with an unnecessary change in setting or time. Better than the very similar The Best Man, The Wood would have benefited greatly from a differently paced, smoother rhythm and a better acting performance by Diggs.
